U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter February 17 – February 23, 2011

Border Patrol agents seized over 13,963 pounds of marijuana and 71.6 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested thirteen criminal aliens and seven gang members. There were nine rocking incidents.*This overview is compiled from incidents reported to the Office of Border Patrol and is not intended to reflect all Border Patrol enforcement actions. Most arrests and seizures fail to meet the requirements for mandatory reporting to the Office of Border Patrol.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for indecency with a child in the state of Texas and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Centro, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including convictions for indecent exposure, lewd acts, and sexual battery. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,908 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Hebbronville, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,656 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a Ford pickup truck, 558 pounds of marijuana, one gram of crystal methamphetamine, a .45 caliber pistol, and arrested a USC near Sonoita, Arizona.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Los Angeles Lenox Street gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for robbery. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Spokane Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 71.6 pounds of cocaine and arrested a national of Canada near Colville, Washington. The subject was arrested near the international border carrying two backpacks containing the cocaine.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Topawa, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for rape issued in the state of Oregon and had been previously removed from the United States.

Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Blythe, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a prior conviction for unlawful sex with a minor. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector РBorder Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Cotulla, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Los Sure̱os 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 105 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, a loaded pistol, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana and the pistol.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,281 pounds of marijuana and a .22 caliber rifle near La Rosita, Texas. Agents received a report of suspected narcotics smuggling activity and responded to the area. Agents located foot and vehicle tracks near the Rio Grande River and followed them to a house where they located the marijuana and the weapon.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Otay Lakes, California. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the 18th street gang. Record checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the state of Washington and had been previously removed from the United States.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Carrizo Springs, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual assault of a child in the state of Texas and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,965 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-tanker, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint in Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and recovered four loaded weapons near Stanfield, Arizona. The subject was found in the brush along with three shotguns and a Mini-14 rifle.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and recovered two handguns near Why, Arizona. An agent noticed the subject throw an object away while in foot pursuit. A search of the subject following his apprehension uncovered two loaded pistol magazines. A search of the area was conducted and the two loaded pistols with additional ammunition were recovered in the immediate vicinity.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Laredo, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child in the state of Texas. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Mexico after he fell into distress while trying to cross the Rio Grande River near Mission, Texas. Agents used a life-ring to pull the subject from the water.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for statutory rape and had been previously removed from the United States.

Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a loaded rifle, a Chevrolet van, and detained a USC near Wellton, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a person of interest in a homicide investigation and had a felony warrant of arrest for aggravated assault with a firearm in the state of Florida.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Laos and seized eight pounds of marijuana at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the subject’s luggage on board a bus and a subsequent search uncovered the marijuana. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a felony conviction for lewd acts with a child.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,198 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet truck near Fronton, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle loaded with suspected contraband. When agents approached, the driver abandoned the truck and absconded into the brush. The marijuana was found inside the vehicle.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,011 pounds of marijuana, and two Dodge trucks near La Casita, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading bundles of suspected narcotics into the vehicles. When agents approached, the subjects absconded on foot into Mexico. A subsequent search of the vehicles uncovered the marijuana in the truck beds and passenger compartments.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an AK-47 style rifle, 39 rounds of 7.62 ammunition and two all-terrain vehicles (ATV) near Ajo, Arizona. An agent observed the ATVs traveling through the desert. Agents responded to the area and discovered the vehicles, the rifle and ammunition abandoned. Records checks revealed that one of the ATVs was reported stolen.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a warrant of arrest for strong arm rape issued in the state of Iowa. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Centro, California. Records checks revealed the subject had multiple convictions for sexual offenses, including indecent exposure, lewd acts, and sexual battery. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Mission, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the 18th Street gang and had a prior conviction for attempted homicide in El Salvador.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized $462,566 in U.S. currency, a Chevrolet truck, and arrested a national of Mexico near Carlsbad, California. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, and subsequent search uncovered the currency concealed inside a false compartment.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,273 pounds of marijuana and arrested 13 subjects near Ajo, Arizona. The subjects were arrested carrying backpacks containing the marijuana
