 The end of the Cold War meant a significant change in the nature of the foreign threats to US security. The principal worry of most Americans is no longer a devastating military offensive from abroad, but rather more insidious assaults which hit closer to home, threatening lives and property and creating a climate of fear.

The number of Muslims has overtaken that of Roman Catholics for the first time, the Vatican said yesterday. Muslims account for 19.2% of the world's population, while Catholics make up 17.4%, according to the Vatican's new statistics yearbook, which is based on figures for 2006.

CIA director General Michael Hayden said on Sunday he believed that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.
In an interview to NBC's 'Meet the Press,' Hayden said the CIA stood by November's National Intelligence Estimate, which assessed that Teheran halted its nuclear weapons program in the fall of 2003.

 Since the British army handed over control of Basra to the IRAQIS, in 12/2007, there is a constant deterioration in public security in Basra when criminal gangs and Shiite militias rule Basra streets. (See – Basra Protest ).
The attempt to hand over security to the IRAQI people in a relatively homogenous region with relatively low level of violence, as a model to further withdrawal of USA led coalition in Iraq, failed completely.
