UNRWA: Barrier to Peace
Jonathan Spyer
Perspectives Papers No. 44,
Executive Summary: The United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) was created under the jurisdiction of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with the unique responsibility of solely aiding the Palestinians. Due to this special status, the UNRWA perpetuates, rather than resolves, the Palestinian refugee issue, and therefore serves as a major obstacle toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

By Dr. Nimrod Raphaeli and Bianca Gersten*
Introduction
With the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), secular Syria, under Hafez Al-Assad, sided with Iran not out of love of its Shi'ite revolutionary theocracy, but in hope that that the war would end with the demise of Syria's nemesis, namely the Ba'thist regime in Iraq. It was hatred of Saddam Hussein, above anything else, that shaped Syrian strategy in that conflict.

After following the slow sinking of Olmert and with the latest round of inquiries, the numbers and the reports are plain to see. He is a cooked goose, and his only action at this time is to step down.
One report with mulitple sources:
The Lekarev Report
'You Can't Stay in Office'
"You can't stay in office," Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this afternoon, as the two met for about an hour at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem on the backdrop of the recent political crisis.
Olmert summoned Barak to his office for the urgent meeting in light of the increasing calls for his resignation after Morris Talansky's testimony yesterday in the police investigation against the prime minister.

Olmert: Greater Israel 'Delusional'
Prime Minister Olmert told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee this morning that only people 'suffering hallucinations' believe it is possible to realize the dream of holding onto the greater Land of Israel, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Six Day War.

Shalom, Zaki
One tangible aftermath of the Second Lebanon War and the agreement that concluded it is an increase in Hizbollah's strength. In fact, this agreement increases the possibility of Hizbollah's taking over all or large parts of Lebanon, which entails severe dangers for Israel. For Hizbollah, war against Israel is a supreme goal, and it has indeed inflicted many significant casualties. It is responsible for a long list of terrorist attacks against Israel and Jewish targets, including two atrocities in Argentina. Hizbollah also attacked American and French forces stationed in Lebanon, which prompted their hurried withdrawal.

Staying With Iran
Following the latest announcement of Syria and Israel from Wednesday 05/21/2008 that the two countries are holding indirect talks, according to the guidelines of Madrid conference from 1991, Some commentators claim that through the indirect talks Syria is looking into the possibility of switching sides in the Middle East confrontation between Iran and USA, and there is such a potential if the talks will move forward successfully. (See -TALKS )
Syria had three opportunities to change the course of its diplomacy in the five years. In 2004 thousands of Islamic volunteers streamed to Iraq through the Syrian border in order to fight the Americans in Iraq.

My column today will be about just one incident in the Middle East, that happened nearly eight years ago. It was a significant incident in its own right, with repercussions to the present day. It is more broadly significant, because it provides a clear example of the way malicious dishonesty in media reporting costs lives, inflames conflicts, feeds ignorance, and spreads murderous racial hatred.
