I don't know "why" FAIR and CIS, two inside-the-beltway immigration control orgs, constantly understate the numbers by so much. Well, actually, I DO know why CIS does as Krikorian has written me and told me "why", twice on two different occasions. What he and CIS are worried about is the People, that's you and I, "not being able to handle 'the true numbers'" of 30-40 million. He's afraid of civil unrest, possibly directed towards the illegals. What I don't understand about his reasoning is, why not simply TRUST the American people with the Truth? What telling them the truth will do is end ANY hope of Amnesty because no American in his/her right mind is going to want to give Amnesty to so many lawbreakers. With 1 million gang members currently in the U.S. (FBI's statistics from January 2009), between 300,000 and 600,000 are illegale aliens. Do we really want them to stay? No! And do we really want "chain migration" which always follows Amnesty? By that I mean, do we really want another 40-60 poor million Mexican nationals coming here as part of the Amnestied aliens' families? They helped cause the collapse of the economy in CA because the State could no longer support the 10-18 million illegals living there. That's right! CA has 10-18 million illegals, much higher than any state. The Invasion state could be saved by Schwarzenegger but he's wussed out, girlie man-style. What FAIR and CIS need to do is open their minds and read the October 2007 CAPS Panel Study on the numbers of illegals in the U.S.--20 to 38 million, with most of the panelists leaning on the larger figure. And that was nearly 2 years ago! Can you see where the "40 million" can from? If you take the Jan. 3, 2005 Bear Stearns Report figure of 20 million and then take the October 2007 CAPS Panel Study figure of 38 million, you can see why I now state the number in July 2009 to be "30 to 40 million". This is a FAR cry from 11, 12 or even 15 million illegals and it completely changes "the dynamic" of the story. "Numbers matter'" because bills and laws are passed sometimes according to statistics. If Obama and Congress give Amnesty to 40 million illegals while saying thru one side of their mouths that there are 12 million currently in the U.S., they're trying to pull a fast one on the American people who aren't going to tolerate it. Few consider "chain migration" when talking of passing Amnesty bills yet if they were respondible pols, they would.
