While you scored well on this political history test, you have failed to demonstrate any link between these noble platitudes (to which I also ascribe) and why Mr. Obama is a worse choice than Mr. McCain. It would be a good thing if you could comment on Mr. Obama's language and communication skills as opposed to Mr. McCain's. What they say, and how they say it also demonstrates a superior grasp of complex issues and an appreciation for the complexity and challenge of the nations problems on the part of Obama over McCain. Their personal histories (leaving out the idiotic right wing fabrications and demagoguery) demonstrate that America, in whatever state of ignorance it is in (and I concur that Americans' ignorance is appalling) did select the clearly superior candidate.

Mr. McCain has shown himself to be throughout his career, in the navy and in Congress, as intent first and foremost on his own aggrandizement and enrichment. He has failed to show the ability to stay true to those glimmers of nobility of spirit he has occasionally demonstrated. And he is fundamentally not a nice person and he has a hot temper. Not a good combo for the White House. Mr Obama has shown a much more measured temperament, as well as an awareness that the glib "gotcha" questions of the press, cannot be fairly answered with a sound bite. "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple.... and wrong."

Nonetheless, the Power Elite (see C. Wright Mills, 1956) who run this country, are busily recalibrating their propaganda machine for the Obama administration and the current mood of the country. They will not tolerate any politician, Democrat or Republican, straying too far from their agenda. And Obama knows this, probably as well as McCain knows it. So, things ain't gonna change much, but not for the reasons you espouse.

A further study of political history, extending back to Biblical times, demonstrates that human nature insists on doing what Mr. Jefferson tried to warn us about. We seem to insist on abrogating liberty to an all powerful authority whom we then deify in our hopes that they will solve whatever problem we perceive, and only in the face of horrific power abuse do we even try to then depose them. And the horrific abuse of power always comes. The modern corollary to your quote should read: "No one ever learns from history, so they WILL repeat it."

from: A lifelong registered Republican who thinks Mr. Bush and his handlers should be in jail.
