Lawrence Roulston: An Answer Is Blowin' in the Wind Print E-mail
Written by Interviewed by Karen Roche, Publisher, The Energy Report
Thursday, 18 February 2010 18:48

In this exclusive Energy Report interview, GreenTech Opportunities editor and publisher Lawrence Roulston talks about how private enterprise has stepped up to the plate, managed to tweak technology and bring the costs of wind-powered energy production down 80% since 1980. It's to the point where wind is on the brink of being able to compete directly with conventional energy. Solar isn't as close, Lawrence says, but the virtuous circle of alternative energy is in motion and gaining momentum. Reduced costs lead to further research and development, improvements in technology, industry expansion and greater economies of scale, which lead again to lower costs, more innovation, more industry growth and cheaper energy, and round and round it goes.

Why wasted? Because no one even knows if this "green wall" will even work and no engineering solutions have been found to make it work. Many say the whole thing is impracticable.

The War on Coal Print E-mail

The United States Environmental Protection Agency is soon expected to make a decision that could have an enormous impact on coal-fired power plants across the nation and, by extension, on the cost of energy and building materials. No, we're not talking about greenhouse gas regulations here. The question that USEPA Administrator Lisa Jackson must answer is this: Should the ash generated from the burning of coal be classified as a hazardous waste or not? It's a decision that has the potential to pile more costs onto the price of energy at a time we can least afford it.

Forget all you've heard about unprecedented global warming; global warming so rapid it can't be natural but must be anthropogenic; global warming threatening to devastate economies, ecosystems, and perhaps even human civilization itself; global warming on which "the science is settled" and "the debate is over."

Forget it all.

Global Warming On the Ropes Print E-mail

Proponents of global warming in the U.K. can't seem to decide whether or not global warming is real.

From the Telegraph.co.uk

Prof Peter Liss, acting director of the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU), said sceptics were endangering the lives of generations to come by making unsupported claims.

"The evidence is hugely for there being substantial climate change due to man's activities and if you want to argue against that case you have to produce some evidence."
