Annual temperature:
Over the course of the past 113 years, the time since statewide records have been compiled by the U.S. National Climatic Data Center, the statewide annual average temperature history of West Virginia exhibits no statistically significant trend either towards cooling or warming. Instead, the temperature history of West Virginia is dominated by inter-annual and inter-decadal variability. For instance, the slight warming observed during the last 30 years was immediately preceded by a three decade-long cooling trend of equal magnitude from the early 1950s to the early 1980s. And prior to that, a half-century long warming trend occurred during the first half of the 20th centurylong before the talk of human impacts to the climate began. When placed within the proper historical context, observed temperatures during recent years across West Virginia prove to be unremarkable and cannot and should not be used as evidence that global warming is pushing the temperature in West Virginia beyond its natural range of variability.

Very Active Tornado Season Another Classic La Nina Effect
By Joseph DAleo, CCM
The winter and spring brought heavy, in places all-time record snowfall, flooding, and now an active tornado season. All of these are classic strong La Nina phenomena. Brush fires now ablaze in Florida are is also a common springtime La Nina hazard.

Its all very well doing what alarmists do which is to say that Co2 is rising and temperatures are rising so in the absence of any other known cause it must be man made CO2 that is warming the planet. That approach ignores both the differing scale of the possible influencing factors and the clear historical relationship between cooler climates and periods of a less active sun. The presence of the sun must be a much bigger influence on global temperatures than the greenhouse characteristics of CO2 on its own.

The Environmental Defence Fund (EDF) has circulated a Report that says the cost of controlling the pollution that causes global warming is only pennies a day
almost too small to measure. The conclusions, summarized by EDF, are

Another Paper On The Role Of Landscape Change On The Climate System - Van der Molen et al.
The full report is below, in a pdf file.
The abstract reads
"Annual precipitation on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico decreased steadily during the 20th century, on average by 16 %. The reduced rainfall manifested itself in the form of regular water rationings during the 1990s which hit millions of inhabitants. Simultaneous with the reduction in rainfall there was widespread deforestation, notably in the coastal lowlands. This paper examines the link between the reduction in precipitation and the land cover change using a combination of energy balance measurements and mesoscale atmospheric modelling.

Editors Note: The purpose of the Global Warming Section on Right Side News is to cover the news on climate changes from all resources available. A healthy mix from both sides of the issue and there are articles from skeptics and we expect articles from those who believe man made global warming is going to be devasting to our world. So when President Bush made his announcement concerning the new national goal to reduce green house gas emission, the American Citizen needs to know what that really means. Lets examine the evidence.
So, here follows President Bush's announcement from their own press release last month, link below.

The news is reporting a relatively large and long lasting volcanic eruption in Chile. According to the AP, the Chaiten volcano spewed lava and blasted ash 20 miles (105,000 feet) into the sky on Tuesday the largest ruption to date since the volcano came back to life last week, prompting a total evacuation of the provincial capital and other settlements. The volcanos long lasting eruption has sent a thick column of ash into the stratosphere, streaming across Patagonia to the Atlantic.

Polar Bear Scare Could Maul Energy Production
By Nathan Burchfiel
Business & Media Institute
Global warming alarmists, news media portray arctic beasts as victims and spokesbears, but protecting their thriving population means greatly increased federal power to control our lives.
Hes on the cover of magazines like Time and Vanity Fair and appears on TV regularly as the image of the environmental movement. Now the polar bear could be pounding a path to your door.
