In a world where the president has the power to label anyone, whether a citizen or permanent resident, an enemy combatant and detain that person indefinitely without trial, no liberty exists and everyone is potentially an "enemy combatant."

Here are several items that have appeared in recent days that, to me, show just how much work we have to do in the field of combatting terrorism, and particularly Islamist terrorism. It shows what the true goals of these groups are, no matter how much we try to pretend otherwise.

The influential conservative newspaper Human Events has named Alaska Governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin "Conservative of the Year." For embracing the vocation of motherhood and articulating conservative Christian views as a political figure, she deserves the title. But it turns out that she is not so conservative on some critical economic and international issues.

AGW is a scam, with no basis in science. A few comments on my own particular view of global warming:

(1) I am particularly annoyed by the claims that the "the debate is over," because this was exactly the claim originally made against the Copernican theory of the Solar System.  Copernicus' opponents said the idea that the Earth was the third planet from the Sun was advanced by Aristrachus in 300 B.C. (true), and had been definitely refuted by 100 A.D.  The debate is over!  Sorry, it wasn't: the Earth IS the third planet.
