On November 9, 1938, a massive nation-wide anti-Jewish pogrom took place during peacetime across the entire territory of the Third Reich. The pretext for this orgy of violence against German Jews was the shooting in Paris two days earlier of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by Herschel Grynszpan, a 17-year-old Polish-Jewish refugee.
The state-organized pogrom, instigated by Hitler and Joseph Goebbels, resulted in the burning or damaging of more than a thousand synagogues; the ransacking of about 7,500 businesses, the murder of at least 91 Jews, and the deportation of another 30,000 Jewish males to concentration camps in Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen.

The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 -- and is likely to go higher. Nearly 16 million people can't find jobs even though the worst recession since the Great Depression has apparently ended. The Labor Department said Friday that the economy shed a net total of 190,000 jobs in October, less than the downwardly revised 219,000 lost in September. August job losses were also revised lower, to 154,000 from 201,000. But the loss of jobs last month exceeded economists' estimates.

For those of you who are convinced that this Administration or the Federal Government is "on your side" and that they only have your best interest at heart, wanting only to "insure the public's best interest is served" or to "level the playing field" so that it's all "fair", you had better take a step back. Take a look at everything the government and all its myriad regulatory agencies have given us. Ask yourself if we are better off today with all the regulation, rules, codes, restrictions and legislation, or if just maybe there was a lot more innovation, discovery and invention before all the pompous politicians stuck their noses into the free market.

Army Chief of Staff (MacArthur's Old Job) Is Worried About ... Guess What? |

DianaWest.net I reference MacArthur in the headline because of the famous exchange between MacArthur and FDR after MacArthur, then Army Chief of Staff, learned that FDR was cutting the army budget to fund New Deal programs.
MacArthur said to Roosevelt, "When we lose the next war and an American boy is writhing in pain in the mud with a Japanese bayonet in his belly, I want the last words that he spits out in the form of a curse to be not against Douglas MacArthur but against Franklin Roosevelt." FDR was enraged, and he said, "Never speak to the President of the United States that way." And MacArthur offered to resign, but Roosevelt brightened and said, "No, no, Douglas, we must get together on this."

From this AP story about the devout Muslim, execution-style murderer of US soldiers and civilian personnel at Fort Hood, Nidal Malik Hassan, surviving erstwhile "martyr":
At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades. They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.
