Harlingen, Texas, June 26, 2008: I really have a great amount of pity for those millions of poor souls who have such undying faith in the promises made by any politician, particularly those who hold national offices. Those who swallow this Alice in Wonderland rhetoric will suffer the deepest cuts of all when they step back through the looking glass and view reality for the first time.

Many theoreticians are wont to analyze international dealings as a function of either constraints and opportunities in the global system or fixed political interests, rather than a function of the influence of individual leaders. Delicately put, Americas foreign policy since September 2001 does not corroborate this approach. It is hard to imagine that had Al Gore been elected president, the US would have invaded Iraq. Similarly, the policy of Republican John McCain, if elected president, will in almost all certainty be significantly different from the policy of Democrat Barack Obama should he enter the White House. These candidates' views about American foreign policy are significantly divergent, reflecting the difference between their respective parties.

Penang, Malaysia
A satire about the decline of the US dollar, written in a mock biblical style reminiscent of *Private Eye's Old Testament-based spoofs.
In the last days of the ancient world, the people of Egypt loved their chariots above all. Each chariot was pulled by many horses, and each horse was an oats-guzzler, consuming many barrels of oats per mile traveled. And the land of Egypt was bountiful in all but oats to feed the horses to pull their chariots. So the Egyptians traded with the lands of the Arabites, which had plentiful oats. But the Arabites wanted gold and silver for their oats. Pharaoh was vexed and called Joseph the Wise to counsel.

Those who shamelessly call for the destruction of Israel will alwaysalwaysfind France blocking their way, French president Nicolas Sarkozy told the Knesset on Sunday, but it wasnt clear what he could have meant.
shamelessly call for the destruction of Israel sounds a lot like Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders. But even after a year of Sarkozyconsidered dramatically more pro-Israeli than most of his predecessorsFrance remains one of Irans major trading partners. Sarkozy has also announced a downsizing of the French military broadly criticized by French commanders.

All eyes are on the Fed meeting to see if the inner Ben Bernanke will lean toward inflation hawk Paul Volcker and follow through to stop inflation and defend indeed recreate King Dollar.
Volcker told us a few months ago that we were in a dollar crisis. Since then, Bernanke has been talking tough. No one expects a rate-hike announcement tomorrow at 2:15 p.m., but all eyes will be watching and reading the Fed policy statement to see if inflation is rated public-enemy number one. The artful term among Fed watchers is "inflation bias."

In my local syndicated newspaper the other day, there was an article featuring a forum hosted by a nearby university for black high school seniors in the region. The annual event was calculated to inform and inspire the students regarding their options in the area of colleges and universities. It will become apparent how desperately such offerings are needed.

What happens when the fact-checkers dont check facts and the watchdogs dont watch? Consider the case of those who claim to be watching politicians for lies and deceptions and pretend to analyze Senator Barack Obamas new patriotic Country I Love television ad, airing in 18 states.

Senator Tom Coburn Press Room
To Lower Gas Prices Now! Here Is How
Total onshore Federal lands throughout the U.S. are estimated to contain 31 billion barrels of oil. However, the Bureau of Land Management estimates that 62 percent of oil is on federal (taxpayer) land and is off limits as a result.
Even more disturbing, BLM believes that just 8 percent of onshore federal oil and 10 percent of on-shore federal natural gas is accessible under standard lease terms.

Unapologetic Former Terrorist Teaches Teachers; Is Vice President for Curriculum
As a founding member of the Weather Underground, William Ayers bombed the New York City police headquarters, the U.S. Capitol Building, and the Pentagon in the early 1970s. Because of a procedural error in his trial, he was never punished for his crimes. "Guilty as hell, free as a bird America is a great country," he later quipped.
