Mexico news reports that "only" 814,000 Mexicans left the country last year - down from 1,026,000 in 2006

Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography reported that the rate of emigration of Mexicans shows a decline in the period 2006-2008 since last year only 814,000 Mexicans went to live in another country, a smaller number when compared to the one million 26 thousand in 2006. Between February and May of 2006, 14.6 out of every thousand residents of Mexico changed their residence to another country.

The head office of Interpol in Lyon, France, advised that it would send a special team to Mexico to investigate a possible misuse of its information systems and data bases after the arrest of the chief of the Mexican Interpol office for links to narcotraffic. In question is the integrity of Ricardo Gutierrez Vargas, the Director General of International Police Affairs in Mexico's Federal Agency of Investigations (AFI) and Chief of the National Central Office (OCN) of Interpol in Mexico, who is presently detained awaiting arraignment.

Fort Hancock, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers performing anti-terrorism inspections at the Fort Hancock, Texas port of entry seized 125 pounds of marijuana late Tuesday morning. Three people were arrested in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.

Tucson, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents Tuesday seized nearly 1,550 pounds of marijuana from a truck pulling a flatbed trailer that entered the United States in a remote area near Sonoita, Ariz.
About 11:25 a.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sonoita Station encountered a Ford pick-up truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel pipes being driven by a resident alien. While conducting a vehicle stop, a detector canine alerted to the presence of contraband on the flatbed trailer.
