Drugs and Crime on the Border is a Long Term War

In a meeting with hundreds of top level federal executives at the National Palace, Pres. Calderon said it would be naive to think that the problem of crime and drug traffic could be resolved in some years “as if by magic” when it has been present for decades in some regions where it was allowed or where crime co-opted public servants, by fear or indolence.

American Border Patrol's Mike Christie was nearly killed yesterday when a smuggler attempted to run him down on the border. It was only the quick thinking on the part of this former law enforcement officer that saved his life.

The 47th U.S.-Mexico "inter-parliamentary" two day reunion starts tomorrow (Sat. 7th) in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The agenda of the Mexican participants focuses on immigration, security and competitiveness. The nearly 300 thousand "deportations" of Mexicans from the U.S. between January and May of this year will be "denounced" because it implies that 100 thousand children, some 75 percent of them U.S. citizens, are left abandoned.

Mexico's Foreign Relations Dep't. ruled out the possibilities that the U.S. Congress might eliminate the pre-conditions attached to the Merida Initiative and, this being the case, the Initiative would be unacceptable to Mexico.

Mexican drug cartel gangs and their surrogates as many feared are committing crimes against Americans on the U.S. side of the border. Until recently it was believed by U.S. law enforcement that these gangs limited their terror to Mexican citizens in Mexico and other Latin American countries. These ruthless drug gangs are now reported to be robbing, torturing, kidnapping, and threatening Americans at an alarming rate.
