Mexico used to have their equivalent of our annual State of The Union address; that has now been transformed into written replies to a series of "Parliamentary Inquiries" posed by the Legislature. What follows is one of the replies by President Calderon; it made news in newspapers all over Mexico on Thursday.

Remittances from Guatemalans living abroad (Ninetyfive percent live in the U.S., seventy percent of those, illegally) top three billion dollars!

Bank of Guatemala numbers show that individual monetary remittances to Guatemala reached a record 3 billion 663.33 million dollars during the first ten months of this year, an amount more than 200 million larger than in the equivalent period of 2007. These remittances have shown a strong increase  since 2001.

NEXUS Program: Expedited Travel Over the Border Print E-mail

Provides expedited travel via land, air or sea to approved members between the U.S. and Canada border.
NEXUS membership also fulfills the travel document requirements of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which will require a passport or other secure travel document by all U.S. and Canadian citizens seeking entry or re-entry into the U.S. by air beginning January 23, 2007. It is anticipated that NEXUS membership also will be acceptable when the requirement is extended to land and sea travel.

CBP Officers Seize $1.6 Million in Narcotics, Nab Child Sex Offender Print E-mail

Nogales, Ariz. - Another busy week for Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales, Ariz. ports of entry as they seized an estimated $1.6 million in narcotics and nabbed a child sex offender.

It began last Monday at approximately 8:45 p.m. when officers working the Mariposa port of entry discovered an abandoned truck as they were conducting security sweeps of vehicles waiting to make entry into the U.S. When officers approached the truck, a Ford F-150, they noticed the truck was locked with no one inside. The truck was towed to the secondary inspection area.
