Unmanned Aircraft Arrives in North Dakota for Border Patrol |

Grand Forks, N.D. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection today announced the arrival of its first Predator B Unmanned Aircraft System on the northern border. This system - in use since 2005 on the southwest border - will enhance border security efforts and support CBP personnel on the ground along the northern border with Canada. The UAS is slated to begin operational flights as early as January 2009.

"The wave of violence unleashed in the country by organized crime reached a new record, because yesterday the homicides related to these crimes surpassed 5 thousand so far this year."
"Yesterday's violence resulted in 35 executed (persons) in the last 24 hours, which brought about the number of 5 thousand 31 deaths related to organized crime."

Laredo, Texas - Laredo, Texas Border Patrol agents seized more than 2, 572 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value street value of $2.1 million in separate incidents this week.
The largest of the seizures occurred yesterday at a local checkpoint. Agents were conducting an immigration inspection on the driver of a 1999 Freightliner tractor trailer when a Border Patrol canine alerted toward the trailer, indicating the possible presence of hidden people or contraband.

Lake Charles, La. - Louisiana State Police officers contacted the Lake Charles, La. Border Patrol station requesting assistance in translating for 31 Spanish speaking subjects at a worksite in Lake Charles. The Louisiana State Police was searching for a fugitive wanted in Texas for homicide.

- Armed robberies of commercial establishments have seen a surge in Guadalajara and just Tuesday there were ten.
- Vehicle theft in Mexico in 2008 has been the highest in the last eleven years and has reached 57,294 through the month of September, a 14% increase. The Mexico City area has the highest number but Jalisco has tallied 4,104, a 24% increase over 2007.
