Mexico hopes to convince President-Elect Obama to embrace open migration and change his stand on construction of the border fence

Mexican Secretary of Exterior Relations, Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, said that when Barak Obama becomes president, Mexico will reassert its contention that his agenda include an immigration agreement as a priority.  In addition, other aspects of dialogue to be addressed are the fight against organized crime and the economic competitiveness with other regions.

The political landscape shifted dramatically on Election Day, as Americans elected Barack Obama president and a sizeable Democratic majority to Congress. The results of the elections clearly indicate that the American public did not want to continue certain policies of the past few years. Exit polls indicate that the economy was overwhelmingly the most important issue on voters' minds and they held the Bush Administration largely responsible for the current crisis.

According to records kept by El Universal Mexico's largest newspaper they report since 2005, the 24 hours of last Monday alone was the most violent for the year in the country, with 58 murders linked to organized crime.  This figure surpasses the record set on Sept 12, 2008 when 41 murders occurred within a 24-hour period. Both records occurred in the same year.  Among those murdered just in one day were seven police commanders and officers.  One police officer was wounded and the severed head of a private security guard was left in a gasoline station restroom.

(The headline reads) : "Violence does not cease in Tijuana" 
Violence continues in Tijuana, where the finding of cadavers and narco messsages keep police agencies on alert on both sides of the border and the civilian population in a state of panic.
More than 600 execution type killings carried out by organized crime have been counted this year, which makes it one of the most violent in the city's history. Yesterday two decapitated bodies were found, two police officers were murdered and so were eleven other men, all within a 14 hour period.

Mexico's national news coverage continued to be almost totally dominated by the plane crash in Mexico City which resulted in the deaths of some fourteen persons including Mexico's Secretary of Government and an accompanying security advisor to President Calderon. There were a couple of op/columns about the role played by Hispanics in our Presidential election plus some speculation on forthcoming immigration law reform in the United States. The digest of events reported below are just some of the continuing daily accounts of blood and violence prevalent throughout most of Mexico.
