Major Confusion For U.S Over Amiri's Case

amiri2GlobalJihad.net

On Tuesday 07/13/2010 morning, Iranian State Media claimed Shahram Amiri found refuge in the Pakistani embassy in Washington, which represent Iranian interests in USA. A spokesman from Pakistan's Foreign Office, Abdul Basit, told the BBC, few hours later, that Shahram Amiri was, indeed, seeking immediate repatriation to Iran.

In the last two months there is a growing row between Iran and USA about the fate of the Iranian nuclear scientist Sharam Amiri, who disappeared in Saudi Arabia in 05/2009. Iran said they have evidence Shahram Amiri was abducted by CIA agents to USA.

On Sunday 06/06/2010 a video footage was distributed in the web in which alleged Dr. Shahram Amiri claimed he was kidnapped and tortured last year by American agents. In a second video, the next day, another alleged Shahram  Amiri said he was studying happily in the United States.

On Tuesday 06/29/2010 evening, a video was shown on Iranian state TV, in which alleged Shahram Amiri said he has escaped in the USA state of Virginia and is now on the run (see - Amiri 06.29.10).

An USA official confirmed to AP, on Tuesday 07/13/2010, that Shahram Amiri, indeed, turned up at the Iranian interests section of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, already on Monday 07/12/2010 at about 18:30 Washington time, and that he wants, willingly, to return to Iran.

If Dr. Shahram Amiri was, indeed, abducted from Saudi Arabia to USA by American agents or deserted willingly and managed to  be in contact with security elements in Iran and to send video massages about himself to Iran, it is a major security failure of the USA. If he is over a week on the run in USA, as he said on a video broadcasted in Iran, and managed to reach the Pakistani embassy in Washington, it is a double failure and a major blow for USA in its delicate situation over the Iranian nuclear capacity and its rush toward nuclear weapon. The case poses a question mark on US intelligence coherence, credibility and integrity.

Later on Tuesday the USA Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton said that Shahram Amiri came to USA voluntarily and is free to leave whenever he wishes to do so.

It can be assumed that the most effective way of Iran to put pressure on Shahram Amiri was to threaten him with his family and relatives.  * On Tuesday 07/13/2010, Shahram Amiri left USA, on his way back to Iran, via a third country. He is expected in the coming weeks to appear in the Iranian TV with stories about his alleged abduction in Saudi Arabia and the "tortures" he went through in US intelligence facilities. Some of the stories will be, most likely, imagined and fabricated.

* Security officials in USA confirmed, on Thursday 07/15/2010, that Shahram  Amiri was in CIA payroll since 2007 and provided useful information. He defected willingly and received about $5 millions for his services, which he cannot use in Iran due to USA and international sanctions. President Barack Obama admitted that the return of Shahram  Amiri to Iran is, indeed, a sort of confusion since potential deserters and informants are, for now, much more deterred.

According to the officials, Shahram  Amiri was also one of the sources that helped author a controversial report published by the American National Intelligence in 2007, which claimed Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program back in 2003 (see - BUSH'S LAST YEAR). It raises the concern that Shahram  Amiri was planted by Iran into American intelligence deliberately, giving up some genuine real information, in order to manipulate the American intelligence about the real status of Iran's nuclear program. If so it is one of the successful Iranian intelligence operation since Ahmed Chalabi's affair in 2003 (see -US INTEL' SOURCES).
