Where does President Obama find his federal court picks - the Communist Party USA membership list?
Just when you think Obama can't possibly pick someone worse than Sonia Sotomayor, he chooses Berkeley Law Professor Goodwin Liu for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. The 9th Circuit is notoriously leftist and peppered with activist judges who freely rewrite the U.S. Constitution. Liu would feel right at home there.
What's wrong with Liu? To begin with he was recently caught omitting at least 117 key documents from the Senate Judiciary Committee. These documents show Liu to be a rabid judicial activist who has publicly slammed Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito.
Liu co-authored Keeping Faith With The Constitution, arguing that the Constitution should be interpreted by liberal judges to reflect their own cultural or political beliefs about society. In other words, they can rewrite our founding document at will. His only "judicial" experience is writing about how he will shred the Constitution if made a judge.
Liu clerked for extreme liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and thinks that President Bush's election in 2000 was illegitimate. He also favors gay marriage, affirmative action, reparations for slavery, forced busing of school children to achieve racial balance, and welfare as a constitutional "right."
Liu has also denounced the free enterprise system, private ownership of property, and limited government. These American concepts, according to Liu are "code words for an ideological agenda hostile to environmental, workplace, and consumer protections." Really? I thought these were the bedrock foundations of our nation.
Goodwin Liu has been on the boards of directors of the ACLU of Northern California, the National Women's Law Center, the Public Welfare Foundation, and Chinese for Affirmative Action. He's also a long-time member of the American Constitution Society (ACS), which is devoted to placing leftist lawyers in positions of power in government and in the judiciary. The ACS is comprised of members who believe the Constitution is an inconvenient impediment to leftist political and social agendas. It is to be redefined at will or ignored altogether. It is no surprise that Liu would feel right at home inside the ACS.
In short, judging from his published writings and speeches, it is clear that Goodwin Liu would make an ideal judge in Communist China, but probably not the United States where we still value free enterprise, private property, traditional marriage, and freedom of speech.
Senate Judiciary Committee member Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is very upset over Liu's hiding of 117 key documents. According to Sessions, "At best, this nominee's extraordinary disregard for the Committee's constitutional role demonstrates incompetence. At worst, it creates the impression that he knowingly attempted to hide his most controversial work from the Committee. Professor Liu's unwillingness to take seriously his obligation to complete these basic forms is potentially disqualifying and has placed his nomination in jeopardy."
Republicans requested a delay in the confirmation hearing of Liu, but Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has refused. The confirmation hearing is April 16.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your two U.S. Senators and ask that they oppose the confirmation of Goodwin Liu to the 9th Circuit. His rejection of free enterprise, private property, and limited government disqualify him for this important post.
