The NEFA Foundation has obtained and translated a communiqué from Al-Qaida's network in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in which AQIM claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a military outpost in Niger, which killed and wounded "no less than 25 soldiers according to the preliminary report."
According to the statement, "The sudden attack began with the intended-martyr, the hero ‘Nasser', driving his truck that was filled with 600 kg of explosives and detonating them in the barracks. And then that was followed with the mujahideen's attack, using various weapons, against those soldiers who remained..." This attack purportedly was in response to the Niger Army's offensive against mujahideen in the same region, which resulted in the death of a group of mujahideen, namely "Saad Abi Sariya" and his companions.
