Last night, KVOA of Tucson's "4 On the Border" featured work by American Border Patrol, specifically its "Operation Border Count" and its new Challenger II airplane. "American Border Patrol... is ramping up its efforts to show how surveillance along the border can be done cheaper," said the KVOA host.

The KVOA report showed video taken from trail cameras placed on known smuggling trails, including one showing a man carrying a Mac 10 machine pistol. Glenn Spencer is seen flying the new Challenger II airplane.

This was a very fair report," said Glenn Spencer, head of ABP. "And I have been told that KVOA will soon air a report on our theory that the drug war in Mexico was precipitated by the construction of new border fencing and vehicles barriers." he added. Spencer said this could be a major breakthrough in the coverage of the border problem.

ABP has been a leader in the application of technology on the border starting with the use of live video over the Internet and the development of unmanned aerial vehicles. A summary of its history is shown here.
