El Salvador considers drastic measures to combat crime
El Salvador's Defense Minister, David Munguia, is considering the presentation of strong measures to the country's Legislative Assembly and to the country's president in an attempt to reduce the levels of criminality in 19 cities within five states of the country. The measures include a general curfew, early closing of business establishments and warrantless searches of houses. Last year there were 4,365 homicides in El Salvador. Some areas already have a virtual, self-imposed curfew because local residents do not leave their homes due to fear.

Sizeable haul near the Rio Grande River
The town of Comales, Tamaulipas, is just upriver from Reynosa, in the lower Rio Grande River valley, and pretty much across from Mission and McAllen, Texas. In the Comales area, Mex. military came upon three "half buried" vehicles covered with camouflage patterned canvas. The vehicles were loaded with 235 packages of marihuana weighing a total of 2 metric tons plus 843 kilos (just over 6,262 lbs.) Six firearms, two grenades and 789 rounds of ammo were also found with the weed. Two of the vehicles had U.S. license plates: a '99 Dodge with Maryland lic. 81V591, and an '05 Chevrolet with Texas lic. X23JFR.

The unavoidable
A "Commander" of the city police of Saltillo, Coahuila, was carried off forcibly on Tuesday afternoon. His body has now been found on the cargo bed of a p/u truck, abandoned in front of a hotel in Saltillo. And in a vehicle on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway, in Guerrero, police today found the bodies of three murder victims, all repeatedly shot. Two other murder victims were found in other areas of the state of Guerrero.
