A recent news article has suggested that beginning October 1, the Border Patrol will have 384 fewer agents on the U.S. - Mexico border. Given that human and drug smuggling is still a problem on our southern border and current U.S. law (Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004) requires a yearly increase of 2,000 Border Patrol agents, it seems ridiculous for DHS to decrease the number of Border Patrol agents.
Dept. Homeland Security Chief Napolitano: Still Endangering America
Perhaps Ms. Napolitano needs to be reminded of section 5202 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which states:
"In each of the fiscal years 2006 through 2010, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall... increase by not less than 2,000 the number of positions for full-time active-duty border patrol agents within the Department of Homeland Security above the number of such positions for which funds were allotted for the preceding fiscal year."
Unfortunately, this would not be the first time Ms. Napolitano has been in need of a reminder as to what her job is supposed to be. She seems to be easily confused as to just who the 'bad guys' are, labeling anyone who disagrees with her bosses' policies or the socialist agenda as "Right Wing Extremists", referring to them as 'homegrown terrorists'. In doing so, she included in her broad-brush memo well over half of all Americans and all of our military and military veterans. And yet, Napolitano was able to overlook the radical, spittle-flecked spewing of Islamic extremists who preach death-to-American-Infidels right here in American mosques.
And of course, lest we forget, our Department of Homeland Security chief who is in charge of securing our nation's borders had to be reminded that coming into this country without permission really is a crime.
So, why is the DHS considering removing agents from our southern border when the agency is mandated to increase the number of Border Patrol agents by 2,000 EACH YEAR? Something about this whole situation doesn't seem quite right. Can anybody really be that foolish? Apparently Napolitano can, and is.
According to her own Department of Homeland Security, only 697 miles of the 1,934-mile long U.S. - Mexico border is considered to be "effectively under control."
It should be deeply disturbing to American taxpayers that DHS, the branch of our government in charge of protecting our borders, only has "effective control" of 35% of our southern border AND is still considering reducing the Border Patrol man power. How ridiculous, yet no one seems to be concerned about this, certainly not the politicians who are pushing for an amnesty which will reward 12 - 20 million illegal aliens. Illegal aliens who violated this country's laws by entering without permission, coming here and continue in their criminal activities with such crimes as document fraud, identity theft, burglary, rape, murder, kidnapping, child molestation, vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving, smuggling drugs/people, and gang violence. All this criminal behavior and more will be rewarded with citizenship, pardons, benefits and handouts, all at the taxpayers' expense.
According to Department of Justice's National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), our southern border is even less secure than Secretary Napolitano and DHS would have the American people believe. Recent reports released by the NDIC show that our southern border is "wide open" to terrorists and drug smugglers.
The NDIC reports show that the California - Mexico border is "easily breached" by both foot and in vehicles. Arizona's border is adjudged to be open not only to drug smugglers, but also to illegal aliens with "extensive criminal records" from "terrorist-producing countries." The NDIC's assessments of the New Mexico and Texas borders, are just as disheartening.
With all of this in mind why would DHS even consider reducing the number of Border Patrol agents on our southern border? Obviously Napolitano is either too overwhelmed to do the job for which she was hired or she is blatantly committed to defying legislation, flaunting the security of this country's borders and showing total disregard for the safety and sovereignty of the American people. Either way, she is a joke, and if it weren't so frightening, it would be funny. The U.S. - Mexico border is far from secure and if anything, needs more, not fewer, agents (as mandated by section 5202 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004).
Department of Homeland Security apparently does nothing but jeopardize our national security. Napolitano's departments spend almost as much time going after U.S. law enforcement officers as she does enforcing the Immigration laws (at least those she remembers).
So when news outlets are reporting that DHS will relocate 384 Border Patrol agents from the U.S. - Mexico border to the U.S. - Canada border, how can this possibly be justified as our southern border is far from secure? If Napolitano would do as she is mandated by section 5202 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, and put the 2,000 additional Border Patrol agents in place, as the law tells her to, then she wouldn't have to worry about stripping 384 agents from the southern border, now would she?
While it is important that our northern border should be secured, it should not be done at the expense of our southern border. Every year, thousands of illegal aliens are apprehended trying to illegally enter our country from Mexico, but even more are able to slip through.
The American people depend on the U.S. Border Patrol to apprehend illegal aliens, stop human and drug smugglers, and protect this nation from terrorists. The American people depend on these brave men and women to keep our nation safe and it would be disastrous if they were no longer allowed to do their job especially because their 'Chief' is hindering them.
What needs to be done to force this (at best) inept appointee, or (at worst) deliberately deleterious bureaucrat to finally do her job? And if it is her 'boss' telling her to lay back and leave us vulnerable, then perhaps it is time to replace them both.
