The Temple Muslim Students Association is attempting to shut down the scheduled appearance of Geert Wilders on October 20. As part of its Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, and its campaign to Stop the Campus War Against Israel and the Jews, the David Horowitz Freedom Center is sponsoring appearances by Dutch Parliamentarian Geert Wilders at Temple and Columbia universities (October 20 and 21).
David Horowitz Freedom Center Response to the Muslim Students Association The Temple Muslim Students Association has issued a call to the Temple University administration to censor the forthcoming campus appearance of Dutch Parliamentarian Geert Wilders on the 20th of October, which is sponsored by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. The Temple administration should reject this attack on the First Amendment rights of all members of the Temple community. It is not surprising that the Muslim Students Association would seek to shut down the free speech of Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders who has been an outspoken critic of Islamic terrorists and Islamic attacks on Jews and other religions. Assaults on the First Amendment and efforts to censor critics of radical Islam are, in fact, typical of the tactics used by the Muslim Students Association, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society, all groups which support the jihad against the west and are part of the network created by the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the parent organization of the terrorist groups al-Qaeda and Hamas. The faculty advisor for Temple MSA is presently a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. It is the height of hypocrisy for the Muslim Students Association to accuse Geert Wilders of spreading hate or anyone of being a hate group. Chapters of MSA at UC Irvine and Ohio State have raised money for the terrorist group Hamas whose goal - as stated in its official charter - is the destruction of the Jewish state and the extermination of the Jews. Speakers sponsored by the MSA have called for the execution of homosexuals, war against the United States and the destruction of the Jewish state and the extermination of the Jews. Every year, on the day commemorating the birth of the Jewish state, the MSA sponsors nationwide campus protests against the existence of the Jewish state calling its creation the "nakba" - the catastrophe. This is an act of genocidal hate. Temple MSA refers to the fact that security will be necessary at the event as proof that Geert Wilders is dangerous. This is the perfect Orwellian mindset of supporters of the jihad. The threat to the Wilders event making security measures necessary comes from Muslim radicals who have already assassinated two prominent Dutch critics of Islamic terrorism - Pym Fortun and Theo Van Gogh (who not incidentally both happened to be gay). In point of fact Wilders has not been tried by any Dutch court, and was recently exonerated by a British court which declared the ban on his entry illegal. The Temple community should reject the call by the MSA to censor free speech on the Temple campus, and should recognize it for what it is - an assault on the right of all Americans to have a democracy that is inclusive, tolerant and respectful of the rights of others. Statement from the Muslim Students Association on Geert Wilder's visit From: Monira Gamal-Eldin < This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it > Date: Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 9:52 PM October 14, 2009 The Temple University Muslim Students Association (MSA), one of the largest, most active and socially conscious student organizations on Temple's campus, is issuing this public statement of protest concerning the invitation of Geert Wilders to address the Temple community on October 20, 2009. Geert Wilders is a far-right Dutch MP who is infamous for his anti-Islamic rhetoric and extreme hatred towards Muslims. A person who has been tried in the Netherlands Supreme Court for his hate speech concerning Islam, banned from the United Kingdom due to the threat he poses to community harmony, and is concurrently being charged for violating anti-hate laws in the European Union, should not be allowed to address the Temple community. Temple MSA speaks for the many Muslims and socially conscious students and faculty on campus when we say that the presence of Geert Wilders on our campus is a breech of Temple University's pledge to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all students and faculty on campus. The Muslim population at Temple feels attacked, threatened, and ultimately unsafe that Mr. Wilders has been invited to voice his hate-driven opinions. The fact alone that backpacks are prohibited for entry to this event reinforces our argument that this creates an unsafe atmosphere where prejudiced, racist and vehemently hateful words will be disguised under the veil of academia. Temple MSA deplores the decision made by Temple College Republicans, The David Horowitz Freedom Center, Temple University Purpose, Temple Student Activities, and Temple University as an institution of higher learning, for welcoming Geert Wilders when so many have found his speech to be repugnant to society as a whole. We condemn Temple University for being the first university in the United States to allow Mr. Wilders to address their population and hope that the administration realizes the reputation and ideologies they are fostering not only to the Temple community, but to the world. The decision to allow Mr. Wilders to share his viewpoints is a danger not only for the public safety of Muslims and the honor of the core principles of Islam, but also for academic integrity and objectivity on campus. We strongly urge that his invitation be rescinded immediately in order to foster appreciation of free speech that is not based on hatred and discrimination. Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter. Monira Gamal-Eldin President of the Temple Muslim Students Association -
[Editor's Note: I find it interesting that the Muslim Students Association has no compunction about twisting our Constitutional right to Free Speech and then tries to legitimize their warped interpretation of that Constitutional Right by saying that it can only be allowed if it is a certain kind of "free speech" as they define it: "free speech that is not based on hatred and discrimination". I hate to break it to them but what part of "FREE" speech is incomprehensible to them? Just because someone does not like or agree with what a person says does NOT make it "based on hatred and discrimination" and therefore disallowed. Even if it were, THAT still does NOT mean that it cannot be spoken. Currently, in the United States of America, people have the right to speak their mind, and if they HATE a certain thing, idea, person or group, it is their right to say so. While they do not have the right to incite violence against or advocate death for what they hate, they do have the right to express their opinions, their feelings, their thoughts. Free Speech is NOT limited by someone else's definition of what may or may not be talked about or what they believe to be "politically correct". THAT is why it is FREE, unfettered, uncensored. From all appearances Islam and it's supporters seem to wrap themselves in this country's freedoms all the while working diligently to destroy those very freedoms for others. Just judging by their actions, Islam is the most intolerant, hate-filled, war-mongering ideology on the globe, demanding special status, special consideration and seeking to force acceptance of their ideology on all others. They seem not content with being equal to and free to practice their religion as everyone else in this country is allowed. Rather they seek to deprive everyone else of the very freedoms they demand. These groups, Muslim Student Association, Muslim Brotherhood, and CAIR, should all be investigated as hate-groups advocating violence against anyone who commits no crime other than to speak the truth or who might choose to disagree with their ideology. Anyone interested in voicing their support of Geert Wilders and this country's First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech is encouraged to email to those same recipients noted at the beginning of the above Muslim Students Association thinly veiled threat (no hijab pun intended). ] Trackback(0)

Bryan,
I would like to first take a moment to say that while I disagree with your position and the rationale you state to support your position, I respect your right to have that opinion and position. Let me begin by saying that if the only way to have "peace" is to deny others their rights, then it is quite possible that sort of "peace" is not desirable. You state that "There are numerous things Mr. Wilders tries to claim which are simply untrue and is hate speech." We should be very clear here. If Mr. Wilders "tries" to claim things which are "simply untrue", then it should be easy enough to show the nature of the "untruth" and move on. If, however, Mr. Wilders is quoting directly from Islamic texts, the Quran, Hadiths, Suras, and adding nothing, using ONLY that which is from those sacred texts, then how can he be lying? And even IF he is, SO WHAT?? It is HIS opinion, it is his right to have that opinion and his right to communicate it to anyone who will listen. If you guys don't like it, then stay home, don't go listen. But do not threaten to throw a tantrum if he is allowed to exercise HIS right to Freedom of Speech. I have seen first hand how the Muslim Brotherhood and the Muslim Student a*sociation have used this same tactic to try and silence those who disagree with Islam. They insist that any dissent is "an insult to the prophet and to Allah", this is pure rubbish. If their prophet and their Allah are so sensitive to insult, so quick to take offense, then perhaps they need to find prophets and a God who are made of sturdier stuff. Why is it acceptable for there to be a piece of art called "The Piss Christ", which is a crucifix with Jesus upside down and submerged in a jar of urine, ok?? Christians have not burned buildings, stabbed to death artists or screamed hatred and demanded the death of the creator of this piece. And what about an art exhibit where the Holy Bible is displayed allowing everyone to scrawl obscenities on the pages, to rip and shred, to urinate on and burn, to desecrate a Christian holy book, but it is NOT ok for anyone to even quote directly from the Quran?? That is such idiocy. Basically, if a Muslim is offended because someone simply quotes their holy texts, then they need to get over it! As for what Mr. Wilders says being "hate speech", that is an unfortunate a*sessment for you to make, since Mr. Wilders only quotes from the Quran, Hadiths and Suras, so is what you are saying is that the Islamic texts are hate speech? Bryan, the Constitutional right to Freedom of Speech, does not qualify that freedom and to extend only to what we like, or that with which we agree. It is a right that allows every individual the freedom to believe, think, speak and communicate without fear of retribution, retaliation, without "infringement". That means you are not allowed to stop someone from speaking out just because you disagree with what they have to say. That's the beauty of the freedom, Bryan. Say, here's an idea, why don't you and the MSA hold a meeting on the other side of the campus to give YOUR side of the issue? THAT is your right, why not exercise it instead of trying to deny the rights of others? What you (and apparently your organization) are attempting to do is to deny an individual their rights. That should be the last thing you try to do, it will ultimately mean that YOU should not be allowed to speak out either. After all, there are those who believe that you and your organization are engaged in hate speech because you promote such antipathy, violence and hostility toward Mr. Wilders. Should we also protest your organizations actions? Should we also protest your organizations right to even exist? IF Mr. Wilders IS speaking the truth, then would not your organization be guilty of the same hate of which you accuse him and therefore your organization should forfeit it's right to exist? "because it will decrease the peace on our campus" hmmm, Bryan, the ONLY reason it would "decrease the peace" on your campus is because of the violence instigated by YOU, your organization and the Muslim Student a*sociation! There is not one single incidence of violence related to Mr. Wilders appearing anywhere that was instigated by him or his supporters. It has been ONLY the violence generated by the Islamists and Islam apologists, like you, trying to silence him. So, with that in mind, we can conclude that IF there is "decreased peace" on your campus, the blame for that will lie squarely on YOUR doorstep. Another point is something that almost made me laugh, if it weren't so sad . . . your organization is called "All Sides"? What a travesty! What a JOKE! You do not want "All Sides" . . . you only want the side that YOU agree with, that YOU support! Otherwise you and your organization would be heartily supportive of Mr. Wilders and his presentations because THAT would be including "ALL Sides"! How arrogant it is of you to believe that YOU are the only "perspective" or opinion that is worthy of being heard. That it is ONLY what you and your "Side" think should be heard that is to be allowed to hold meetings or a*sembly. Bryan, it is MY opinion that you and your organization "All Sides" show yourselves to be nothing more than a hypocritical sham, and an affront to civil discourse and open debate. How dare you name yourselves "All Sides" and then set out to destroy the right of the "other side" to even be heard. You and all your members really need to read "1984" and "Animal Farm", because you, sir, are exceedingly close to qualifying for induction into "The Ministry of Truth"! In my opinion, Bryan, your organization and the Muslim Student a*sociation are perfect examples of prejudice, bigotry, intolerance, violence and hate. You are prejudiced against anyone who believes differently, you are bigoted against all other perspectives and opinions, you and the MSA threaten that IF YOUR demands are not met that things will get violent, you are supremely intolerant by trying to silence any and all dissent and you are hateful in your specious attacks on those who would present another "side" to an issue. By the way - do not blame this article or this site or ANY posting of an article for being responsible for your friend receiving "hate mail" that is stupid in the extreme - for you to say "but because of this article" "has been receiving hate mail." What any individual decides to do or not do is the responsibility of the individual. You are attempting to try and play the "victim", "oh poor ME" because you do not want to take responsibility for YOUR actions. You need to suck it up and stop whining. IF you do not want to bear consequences of your actions, if you are such a coward, and only want to spew your opinions and try and force others to bow down to YOUR wishes and then NOT want to allow anyone else to communicate their displeasure with you, then I suggest you sit down and shut up. Because believe it or not, YOU, your organization, or the MSA are NOT the ultimate authority for WHO gets the right to speak and who does not. Have a nice day. written by Temple Graduate In Israel, October 20, 2009
While Bryan's argument is weak, at best, and his group--like all groups with its name or similar roots-- is just a front for pro-palestinian (much like Temple's Peace Alliance), his a*sertion about Monira is just.
As a former president of Temple Students for Israel, I have no qualms with calling Monira a friend. And while you can take individual responsibility for hate mail received, it is inappropriate to smear a student that does not put herself out there as a target. While the attempts of the MSA and of Bryan are counter intuitive to Free Speech --and i agree, they are-- they are also guaranteed rights of the US Constitution. I respect their right to protest, just as much as respect my right to vehemently disagree with their opinion. But it is actually wrong of you to post her name and her email address. That is unfair. And as a student who specialized in communications and journalism AT Temple University, I can say that it is not the kosher way of going about things. I do not claim to know what Mr. Wilder will say o represent, I am currently studying in a Yeshivah. But Monira did not put herself out there to be attacked, she is a representative of a people and as the president of an organization she is their foremost representative. I have even co-sponsored events with her and the MSA --though no Jews showed up. EVEN if the MSA gets its money from terrorists...I am happy to say that in the hands of the Gamal-Edin family it is not being used for such purposes. Sue, the liberal tree huggers and apologist Jews are ignorantly swayed into a self-threatening political stance on middle-eastern affairs, but such is the power of the Palestinian's PR campaign in the US. They would and have already come to blind and ignorant stances and are ALREADY unwilling to hear an alternative. I know, because I tried talking to them myself. I sat in on MSA and SJP (Students for Justice in Palestine) meetings. They brought in Noura Erakat (founder of "End The Occupation)--now there is a Hitle want-to-be--, and in my opinion, I embarra*sed he in the wake of HER hate speech and HER lies. I used my free speech to come to their speaker, to play the role of socrates, and ask questions of seeming ignorance to point out her lies. But in summation, you have violated your journalistic integrity insomuch as posting Monira's name and email address. Even if it is ONLY Monira, she represents the Muslim that is virtually unseen and unheard in our media. She IS the Moderate Muslim. Her ideology might be the same, but she is moderate insomuch as he way of expressing herself. Do i think she is wrong? Sometimes. Ok, most times (when it comes to middle-eastern affairs). I was even willing to add and *correct her "History of Israel" when i sat in on an SJP meeting. But she is entitled to her wrong opinion, and the freedom to express it, just as much as i am free to tell her why i think she is wrong! POINT being... she is a student. She has student rights. Temple is an uber liberal campus, and when it comes to Muslims and Jews, that handbook is basically thrown into the bin. And i know the rules of journalism. She does NOT qualify as 'celebrity'. She have sloshed her name into the mix, when she simply went about things in a student-diplomatic fashion. Again, i think she IS wrong. I think anyone who tries to subdue the "other side" is wrong. But that does not make it ok to drag those people through the mud. Write comment

I want to make it clear it is not just the Muslim Student a*sociation who is trying to get this event canceled. Those of us who support peace and know that not all Muslims are fascists are going to be protesting this event. My organization All Sides is a Pro-Peace, Pro-Israel, Pro-Palestine; dialogue, education and advocacy group. We know that this event attempts to portray many members of the Temple Community, specifically our Muslim members as fascists. If this were true I, being a Jew who wears a kippah and tzitzit daily would not be able to be friends with people like Monira, because according to this article and this speaker all Muslims hate all Jews. Monira is an incredible person and in no way believes in hate of another. There are numerous things Mr. Wilders tries to claim which are simply untrue and is hate speech.
All Sides does not support this event in anyway, because it will decrease the peace on our campus. We will this event will cause un-needed arguments from a lot of different people and we find it disgusting that you would portray members of the Muslim Student a*sociation who we are good friend with as terrorists. I do not know if you intended this or not, but because of this article Monira has been receiving hate mail. I cannot believe this organization would encourage others to send students hate mail. All you are doing by publishing this article and hosting this event is decreasing the peace on our campus and that is something All Sides cannot support.
Sincerely,
Bryan Mann
