U.S. Navy scores one
On Oct. 7th, the U.S. Navy followed an established protocol agreement and obtained clearance from Mexican officials to search a vessel some 183 nautical miles northwest of Clarion Island, part of the Revillagigedo Archipelago [Mexican islands several hundred miles S.W. from the tip of Baja California].Then, when the USS McClusky approached the "Fiona", that craft's four crewmen dumped packages overboard, set the craft on fire and jumped into the water. [A video accompanying the article showed the "Fiona" to be a fast, small yacht]
The McClusky rescued the four men and recovered some of the packages; their content was cocaine weighing almost 500 kilos. Later, a Mexican naval unit arrived, recovered more drug and took the four men in custody to Mazatlan.

A hand waves a Mexican flag while a voice behind a mound labeled with disasters intones "We're going to the World Cup, we're going to the World Cup", all in reference to the forthcoming world soccer championships to be held in Johannesburg. The rocks on the mound are labeled "crisis", "petroleum", "influenza", "monetary remittances", "unemployment", "insecurity", "economic crisis"

Colombian police seized 2.88 metric tons of cocaine and arrested an armed 17 year old who was guarding the stash in a rural zone by Necocli, near the western end of Colombia's Caribbean coast.

A body and a message
The body of an execution victim was found in Boca del Rio, a few miles south of Veracruz. A threatening note on a tag board was held on the body by a long knife which had been plunged into the victim. The message states that this will be the fate of those who inform about the safe houses of the "company". It ends with: "Respectfully : Z". A finger was stuck in the dead man's mouth.
