He said the actual text of the bill is "arcane," "confusing," "hard stuff to understand," and "incomprehensible."

He told CNSNews:

I don't expect to actually read the legislative language because reading the legislative language is among the more confusing things I've ever read in my life.

We, we write in this committee and legislate with plain English and I think most of us can understand most of that. When you get into the legislative language, Senator Conrad actually read some of it, several pages of it, the other day and I don't think anybody had a clue--including people who have served on this committee for decades--what he was talking about. So, legislative language is so arcane, so confusing, refers to other parts of the code-'and after the first syllable insert the word X'--and it's just, it really doesn't make much sense. So the idea of reading the plain English version: Yeah, I'll probably do that. The idea of reading the legislative language: It's just anyone who says that they can do that and actually get much out of it is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

The Finance Committee rejected an amendment from Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) that would have required the committee to post the language of the legislation at least 72 hours before holding the final committee vote. This amendment was defeated.

"It is clear that Democrats are determined to nationalize our health care system - and they won't even feel they have read the legislation they're about to pass and understand it before they pass it," said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. "They won't read it, and they won't let us read it. Any Democrat proposal must be defeated. The future our health care system is in jeopardy if Obama forces socialized medicine on us!"

Sensible Amendments Defeated By Democrats
During mark up of the Baucus health care bill in the Senate, the Republican minority offered numerous amendments in order to make this socialist bill less threatening to our liberties, our health care options, and our incomes. In addition, the Baucus bill will fine and possibly jail anyone who fails to get health insurance coverage!

Republicans offered amendments that would have:

  • Banned local governments, agencies or health plans from discriminating against health care providers who refuse to provide abortions.
  • Restricted government funds from being used to fund abortions.
  • Required a government ID to ensure that illegals don't receive aid from Medicaid or tax subsidies.
  • Protected cuts in Medicare to nursing facilities, long-term care hospitals, hospice care and more.
  • Ensured that people can keep their current insurance coverage without government mandates driving up the costs of health insurance.
  • Permit individuals otherwise enrolled in Medicaid to choose to enroll in a private insurance program.
  • Protect states from massive unfunded and mandatory Medicaid expansions.

These and other amendments were rejected largely on a party-line vote in the Senate.

As currently written, the Baucus bill will not protect health care providers against discrimination charges for failing to perform abortions; it will not restrict taxpayer funding of abortion; it will permit illegals to receive medical aid; it will cut Medicare by $500 million; it will not protect people who want to keep their insurance; it will keep Medicaid recipients from opting out of the system; and will force large unfunded mandates on states.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators and ask that they vote NO on Obamacare.
