Ibn-al-Libi-buttonWhen Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi died in a Libyan prison in May 2009, the response from the Global Jihad Movement was more intense than anticipated. The NEFA Foundation has released a short report about al-Libi and translated three recently acquired documents concerning his life. Shortly after his death, the Information Committee of al-Qaida released a eulogy of Ibn al-Sheikh, praising him as "honorable and noble."

Another highly interesting document, written by one of his companions, was released under the title, "Jihad Basil' Martyr Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi, May Allah Have Mercy on Him. The last document is the transcript of a speech by Abu Yahya al-Liby, released by As-Sahab media and titled "Ibn al-Sheikh...The Grave and not the Poplar."

Some of the documents provide new insights into al-Libi's life  and describe how he only became a member of al-Qaida after 9/11.

The NEFA Foundation plays a role in the fight against terror through cohesive and comprehensive efforts to research, analyze, and disseminate information pertaining to past and current terrorist activities. The Foundation shares its findings with law enforcement agencies and the intelligence community where appropriate, and works with other research organizations to educate the public on the threat of terrorism. NEFA, by funding extensive field research, is able to obtain original documents as well as develop an on-the-ground understanding of events.
