MAFFS 2 is the next-generation roll-on, roll-off firefighting system designed to air-drop fire-retardant chemicals used in fighting forest fires. MAFFS 2 is an integral tool for battling large wildfires.

MAFFS 2 is a fully self-contained system that employs an on-board compressor system replacing the ground support equipment requirements of the original MAFFS. A self-contained compressor saves valuable time and money by eliminating the necessity of ground support compressors.

MAFFS 2 will replace firefighting equipment that the Air National Guard and Reserves have used in its C-130's for thirty years.

The MAFFS system will carry 3000 to 3600 gallons depending on the C-130 model of aircraft and ambient conditions. MAFFS 2 employs a positive-feed, pintle-valve delivery system and proven technologies. Engineering designs have reduced the amount of retardant splashed on the exterior of the plane during aerial drops, which saves time and money previously allocated to cleaning the corrosive retardant from the plane.

Below is a link to a Power Point Presentation on this new firefighting system, photos and more. (This PPT contains a short movie clip, in order to view this clip you need Windows Media Player)
