Obama Democrats Will 'Fix' Our Health Care System By Destroying It

President Obama has failed in his attempt to pressure Congress into passing health care legislation by July 31st.  It took Obama six months to pick a dog for the White House, but he wanted Congress to rush through a massive overhaul of our health care system in just two weeks.

This legislation was on a fast-track until Americans began to call their legislators to complain about what is in the bill. The train to socialism has been slowed down due to citizen action! Now, Obama won't get a vote until September or even October! We have a chance to kill this legislation.

Citizens must confront their legislators at Town Hall meetings during the August recess!

On Wednesday, several Blue Dog Democrats announced a "compromise" agreement with Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Waxman regarding components of health "reform" legislation (H.R. 3200).  However, the broad outlines reveal few substantive changes to Democrats' government takeover of health care.

Four Blue Dogs reached an agreement with Rep. Henry Waxman to cut $100 billion from the $1 trillion dollar bill. As former Congressman Ernest Istook points out, there is little difference between saying you'll spent $900 billion instead of $1 trillion. It's still a wasteful program that will nationalize our health care system - and destroy it.

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) has also criticized the Blue Dog deal. He notes: "This 'deal' will increase health care costs for families, small businesses, and seniors, destroy jobs, and reduce access to quality health care.  It is a raw deal for the American people, and sadly, it proves once again that the so-called 'Blue Dogs' have no bite when they're forced to choose between their constituents and the radical leadership of their party. The Blue Dogs involved in the 'deal' agreed to keep a job-killing employer mandate and a job-killing small business tax, as well as provisions establishing a government czar to make medical decisions that should only be made by patients and their doctors, gutting Medicaid, and slashing Medicare for millions of seniors, particularly in rural America."

As more and more Americans learn about what's in the Senate and House bills, the more angry they're becoming. They should be angry. Both bills (which are constantly changing), will totally destroy the best health care system in the world; undermine Medicaid and Medicare; push Americans out of their own health insurance plans into a government-run plan; fund abortion on demand and possibly even sex-change operations for transsexuals.

House Republicans recently offered a series of amendments in committee to the Nancy Pelosi version of Obama's socialist plan. It is instructive to see the common-sense amendments that were quickly rejected by the Democrat leadership.

Democrats rejected an amendment that would have required Members of Congress to enroll in the "public" health insurance plan that will be imposed on all Americans. They're willing to force all Americans - except themselves - into a socialized system!

They also rejected an amendment that requires Representatives to actually read the health care bill they're voting on! Such irresponsibility is unprecedented!

Bottom line: Democrat Representatives don't want to be enrolled in a socialized medicine system, but they want to force you into one. And, they don't even want to read the health care bill before they rush to pass it.

Here's a sampling of the reasonable protections and safeguards for Americans that were rejected in committee:

  • Require all Members of Congress to get their health insurance through the proposed government-run plan.  Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) offered an amendment in the Ways & Means Committee that would have required Members of Congress to enroll immediately in the government-run health plan that would be established under the Democratic bill.  The Heller amendment was killed in the Ways & Means Committee at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Rangel.
  • Prevent taxpayer-funded health benefits from going to illegal immigrants.  Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) offered an amendment that would increase safeguards to ensure taxpayer-funded benefits do not go to individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.  This amendment, too, was killed at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Rangel.
  • Prevent taxpayer funding of abortion.  Reps. Sam Johnson (R-TX), Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Mark Souder (R-IN) offered amendments to remove language from the Democratic legislation that would result in American taxpayers subsidizing abortion-on-demand.  Speaker Pelosi and her committee chairmen killed all of these amendments.
  • Specify that Congress should read the health care bill before voting on it.  Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) offered an amendment expressing the sense of Congress that Members of Congress should read the health care bill before they vote on it.  More than 80 House Republicans have signed a pledge vowing they will not vote to enact a health care bill they have not read and which has not been posted online publicly for at least 72 hours.  Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), by contrast, reportedly scoffed at the notion of reading the bill before voting on it.  The Brady amendment was defeated in committee at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Rangel.
  • Ensure Americans cannot be forced into a government-run health care plan.  Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) offered an amendment that would prohibit the federal government from automatically enrolling Americans in the government-run health plan that would be created under the Democratic health care bill, allowing Americans to choose whether or not they want to be enrolled in such a plan.  The Brown-Waite amendment was killed in committee at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Rangel.
  • Stop seniors from being stripped of their health care choices.  Rep. Brown-Waite offered an amendment that would remove portions of the Democratic health care bill that would cut the Medicare Advantage program.  Such cuts would impact millions of seniors nationwide, taking away their choices and forcing them into a government-run health care plan with fewer options.  The Brown-Waite amendment was killed in committee at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Rangel.
  • Ensure that workers who like their current health plan can keep it.  Reps. Judy Biggert (R-IL) and Tom Price (R-GA) offered an amendment to ensure that Americans who like their current employer-provided coverage can keep it by shielding such coverage from the costly and complex new mandates in the Democratic health care bill.  Under the amendment, employer-based health plans that comply with ERISA (the Employee Retirement Income Security Act), the federal law that makes it possible for millions of American workers to receive quality health care benefits and other benefits through their employers, would be considered as having met all of the mandates specified in the bill.  The Biggert-Price amendment was killed in committee at the behest of Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Miller.
  • Prevent bureaucrats from making personal medical decisions for patients.  Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D. (R-GA) offered an amendment in the Energy & Commerce Committee to bar federal political appointees and bureaucrats from intervening in patient treatment decisions.  The Gingrey amendment would have ensured patients and doctors remain as the sole individuals responsible for making these critical decisions.  Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) led Democrats in opposition to the amendment, which was defeated.

Obamunists Reveal True Objectives

It is clear from these rejected amendments that President Obama and his socialist allies in Congress want a health care system that:

  •
    • Funds abortion on demand - and probably even sex-change operations
    • Provides health care services for illegal aliens
    • Will reduce Medicaid and Medicare services
    • Will force Americans out of their own insurance plans into a government-run program
    • Will force senior citizens into a one-size-fits-all, government plan.
    • Will have bureaucrats determining what treatments a physician can offer his patients.

Only six months into office, President Obama and his allies in Congress have seized control of our financial institutions and the automobile industry. Now, they want to nationalize our health care system and bankrupt us in the process. Obamunism must be stopped!
