"While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangertous toys and goods to be sold in American markets, the media wrings it's hands and criticizes past [Bush] Administrations for perceived errors. Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.
Made me think . . . WHY do we need the "gubmint" to suspend trading privileges?"
I received this today in my email and decided to see if there is any stength left in the American consumer - take a look and see what you think - - -
"A lady doing her grocery shopping made me realize that I, like many/most Americans, usually just look at the price and buy whatever I can for the best (lowest) price. With the cost of everything so high and my family budget so tight, it always just seemed practical. Take a look at this however and you decide:
"I was buying frood the other day at the Country Market and I noticed on the label of some of the products it indicated from "China" or "PRC" (Peoples Republic of China).
For example the "Our Family" brand of the mandarin oranges says it right on the can "From China", I was shocked. So, for a few more cents ( $0.03 cents actually) I bought the "Liberty Gold" brand which is an American brand, or the Dole brand from California was also available."
[Checking the labels for the country of origin is not a big deal, I usually check labels for things like MSG and Aspartame (both of which give me nasty migraines) anyway, so it isn't a big thing to look for country of origin.]
"While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangertous toys and goods to be sold in American markets, the media wrings it's hands and criticizes past [Bush] Administrations for perceived errors. WE, the People can do it!"
"Simply look at each can or package you pick up and if it says "Made in China" or "PRC" (and that now includes Hong Kong), just choose another product, or (worst case) none at all. You will be amazed at how many of these inferior (and occasionally toxic) products we have been routinely purchasing. At the same time, you will be equally amazed at how empowering this little exercise can make you feel!
Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones (what a notion!) and benefit some American farmer . . . Easter is just an example of course, the point is do NOT wait for our insipid government to act. Just take control on your own!
Something to THINK about: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20.00 of Chinese goods, that's Four Billion dollars of trade NOT going to China and staying here in America.
The possible downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporaty pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory. Wahhhhh! They should have made better choices that included consideration of their CUSTOMERS!
The solution? Let's give them fair warning and send our own message, We, the People! - those of us who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on August 1, 2009 and continuing it until September 1, 2009. That is only ONE month of trading losses, BUT it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8% of their American exports for that segment (grocery/consumables). Then they will at LEAST have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and disregard were worth it. After all, if we can do it for one month, what is to keep We, the People from making it a permanent change in our shopping habits?
Remember AUGUST 1, 2009 through SEPTEMBER 1, 2009
Even better, practice NOW, and mention this little "operation" to take personal control to your friends and family. Call it an exercise of our "Freedom to Choose", we still have it and need to flex it. ----------
