House version promotes tax-funded abortion on demand.
July 16, 2009 - Here we go again. The House and Senate are again being rushed to pass legislation that no one had time to read. The latest is a 1,000-page health care reform bill in the Senate.
Legislators should read the bill entire before they vote on it - especially billion dollar bills that have the potential of destroying our economy.
Yesterday, while TV coverage was focused on the Sonia Sotomayor confirmation hearing in the Senate, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee rushed through passage of Obama's monstrous health care bill by a 13-10 vote. The bill will initially cost taxpayers $600 billion. It will also impose mandates on states in the years ahead.
Republican members of this health committee held a press conference after the vote and criticized the legislation and the partisan nature of how the bill was crafted. Republicans were not permitted to have any say in drafting the legislation and their key amendments to fix the bill were rejected on a party line vote.
Two of those speaking against this legislation were Sen. Mike Enzi (WY) and Sen. Judd Gregg (NH). In a press release, Gregg noted that the bill will cost an estimated $1.5 trillion over ten years. The bill will have long-term economic impact resulting in lower wages, and job losses. It also leave an estimated 34 million Americans uninsured.

The bill will require most Americans to get health insurance and require employers with more than 25 workers to provide insurance or face a $750 per worker penalty. Insurers could bar anyone with pre-existing conditions.
The bill also creates a government-run health system that will compete with private insurers. The inevitable result of this is to drive private insurers out of business. Obama's supporters have openly admitted that this is the goal of this plan. President Obama admitted this as well when running for the Senate.
The Senate Finance Committee is seeking money to help with health care finance reform and is threatening insurance companies with new fees that could be as high as $100 billion. The Democrats have not said what this money would be used for.
House Version Pushes Tax-Funded Abortion
The House version of Obama's health care reform is H.R. 3200, which sets up a government health board called the Health Benefits Advisory Committee. This committee with the Department of Health and Human Services, will impose new mandates on insurance carriers to obtain and provide abortion coverage.
Section 122 of the bill says that a minimum health care package should cover "preventive services, including those services recommended by the Task Force on Preventative Services and those vaccines recommended for use" by the CDC. If the task force recommends abortion as a preventive service, or includes emergency contraception, these services could be required in the benefits package. The bill could also create an abortion clinic mandate on health insurance providers.
President Obama has told Planned Parenthood: ""In my mind, reproductive care is essential care, basic care, so it is at the center, the heart of the plan that I propose ... Insurers are going to have to abide by the same rules in terms of providing comprehensive care, including reproductive care ... that's going to be absolutely vital."
