The David Horowitz Freedom Center has produced a new, five-minute flash video, Hamas: The Terror Elite. The video takes the viewer inside this fearsome terror organization, demonstrating how Hamas made murder by suicide bombings its signature weapon during the 1990s, before graduating to Qassam rockets during the three years of relentless attacks on Israel that precipitated the recent Gaza War. The video also reveals how the terror organization, heavily funded by patrons Iran and Syria, grew out of the violent Islamist movement calling itself the Muslim Brotherhood, which is also the godfather of Hamas's Sunni jihadist counterparts in al-Qaeda.
As the video shows, Hamas is also unlike other terrorist organizations. In contrast to Yasir Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization, whose members it has hunted down since coming to power in Gaza, Hamas does not even pretend to value nationhood for Palestinians. Its purpose has always been chillingly clear: the total annihilation of Israel and its Jewish citizens. In one of its earliest proclamations, the group bluntly declared, "Every Jew or settler is a target and must be killed."
To be sure, Hamas is an equal opportunity killer. Hamas hates Christians, Bahais and secular Muslims almost as ferociously as it hates Jews. Fellow Palestinians are not spared. Its "vice squads" murder unmarried people meeting together and torture homosexuals. Posturing as an organization that provides social services, Hamas has brutally imposed its rule over the residents of Gaza by controlling the food supply, shaking down European and UN aid organizations trying to help the desperately impoverished Gazans.
At a time when American politicians such as Sen. John Kerry and former president Jimmy Carter, along with European leaders like Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and Britain's Tony Blair, are calling for an engagement with the "moderates" in Hamas-moderates who do not in fact exist-Americans should know the truth about this terror organization. Hamas: The Terror Elite is the video that the engagement crowd won't want you to see.
