The Senate will vote tomorrow on President Obama's nomination of David Ogden as Deputy Attorney General.
While it is expected that President Obama will nominate staff who share his liberal views, David Ogden's positions are too far left of mainstream America's.  Ogden has built his career by advancing abortion, denying its harm, protecting pornographers while removing protections from children, and he believes that the U.S. Constitution should be interpreted in light of international law and U.N. statements.

He Is Radically Pro-Abortion
Early in his legal career Ogden served as a Clerk to Henry Blackmun, the Supreme Court Justice who authored Roe v. Wade (1973).
He wrote and filed an amicus brief in Casey v. Planned Parenthood (1992) in which he misrepresented the negative impact abortion has on women.  He wrote:

"Abortion rarely causes or exacerbates psychological or emotional problems.  When women do experience regret, depression, or guilt, such feelings are mild and diminish rapidly without adversely affecting general functioning.  The few women who do experience negative psychological responses after abortion appear to be those with pre-existing emotional
problems. . . ."

and,
"In sum, it is grossly misleading to tell a woman that abortion imposes possible detrimental psychological effects when the risks are negligible in most cases, when the evidence shows that she is more likely to experience feelings of relief and happiness, and when child-birth and
child-rearing or adoption may pose concomitant (if not greater) risks or adverse psychological effects. . . ."

Ogden has taken strongly pro-abortion positions in many more abortion cases on behalf of the National Organization for Women, the American Psychological Association, People for the American Way, as well as other liberal groups, arguing against parental notification, against spousal notification, and against limitations on taxpayer funded abortions.

  Defended Pornographers
Ogden consistently represented pornographer's rights throughout his legal career, His clients have included Playboy, Penthouse magazine, the ACLU, and the nation's largest distributor of hard-core pornographic movies.

In a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court, Ogden argued against filter systems that block pornography in favor of "unfettered Internet access" at public libraries, even for children.

Argued That International Law Should Influence U.S. Constitutional Law
While representing a man accused of murder on a volunteer, pro-bono basis Ogden argued that the Supreme Court should consider international law, specifically the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child (which the United States has not ratified), in its interpretation of U.S. Constitutional law.
It is important to send the message now that the American people will not allow President Obama to continue to nominate people with radical liberal agendas to such influential positions in the American government!
