Organized crime in Mexico knows no limits!

In reference to the grenade attack on the El Debate news office reported yesterday, the El Universal editorial, Alliance against crime, asserts in part: Organized crime knows no limits. It isn't enough to operate with large margins of impunity or to have acquired the protection of certain police, military, members of the judiciary, penal authorities, politicians and public officials.
If they can't handle that, they also want to silence the press. The editorial continues with a summary of the chaotic crime conditions in Mexico, including prior criminal attacks on news organizations, and concludes with: President Felipe Calderon and leaders of the country's security have stated correctly that without the help of the public and the media, government cannot counter crime. We must reinforce this alliance through the protection of its members.

Police of the state of Mexico arrested eight members of the municipal police force of Teoloyucan for their alleged involvement in thefts of merchandise from freight trains that pass through the area. The group, including one female, is also being held for investigation of their possible part in the murders of the town's Chief of Police and one of his unit chiefs last October 31.

Novedades de Quintana Roo (Cancun, Quintana Roo) 11/18/08
A body found yesterday in Chetumal, QR, is presumed to be that of a supervisor of Customs at the international airport in Cancun who was abducted November 2. Although not yet officially identified, the man's family tied in his abduction and murder with his refusal to permit entry of an air shipment of chemicals used in the synthesizing of drugs that had arrived from Bombay, India.
