Two Doctors and a Businessman Charged in Immigration Scheme
PHILADELPHIA - Acting United States Attorney Laurie Magid today announced the filing of an Indictment1 against Habeeb Malik, Ira Weiner, and Thongchai Vorasingha, charging that the three engaged in a conspiracy to make false statements in applications to become United States citizens. The defendants are also charged with fraud in connection with the applications. Defendant Malik is additionally charged with filing false tax returns that failed to report tens of thousands of dollars in taxable income. Read More
Houston waste collection company agrees to pay $3 million penalty
The company also agrees to cooperate with ICE in ongoing criminal investigation
HOUSTON - A local waste collection company agreed today to pay $3 million in fines and cooperate in a criminal investigation into alleged immigration violations by some former employees. The agreement was announced today by U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent in Charge Robert Rutt. immune Republic Services Inc. agreed to pay $2 million in restitution to the City of Houston, to be used for recycling purposes, and $1 million to the U.S. Department of Treasury as a penalty. The company also entered into an agreement to cooperate with the U.S. government in the ongoing criminal investigation into alleged immigration violations by former employees at its Houston Wilson Road facility, and to adhere to an immigration compliance program. ICE Fugitive Operations Teams arrest 78 illegal aliens in Pennsylvania and Delaware
About a third of those arrested have criminal histories

PHILADELPHIA - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Wednesday that its local fugitive operations teams arrested a total of 78 illegal aliens during a week long operation in Pennsylvania and Delaware. ICE officers arrested 43 fugitives, which included 13 with criminal records. During the operation an additional 35 immigration violators were arrested, 13 with criminal histories.

"ICE will continue to fulfill our Congressional mandate to apprehend and deport those who entered our country illegally, especially those who have committed criminal acts," said Thomas Decker, field office director for ICE Office of Detention and Removal in Philadelphia. ICE seizes 1,930 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of approximately $58 million in multi-agency operation
Ten-member crew from five countries now in federal custody.


SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents, working jointly with Caribbean Border Initiative (CCI) law enforcement officers, seized here today 1,930 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of approximately $58 million on board the Panamanian-flagged vessel M/V Megan Star. The seizure was part of the Caribbean Corridor Initiative, an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Strike Force that investigates South American-based drug trafficking organizations responsible for the movement of multi-kilogram quantities of narcotics utilizing the Caribbean as a transshipment point for further distribution to the United States. The initiative is composed by the United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
