Minneapolis, Minnesota (August 29, 2008) -- The maverick senator who has shaken up Washington has picked a maverick governor who has shaken up the status quo in her own state. The selection of Governor Sarah Palin by Senator John McCain as his running mate has Virginia Republicans energized and ready to draw the sharp contrast between the choice that voters will have this fall.

"John McCain hit it out of the park with his selection of Governor Palin," said Delegate Jeffrey M. Frederick, Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia. "This is a bold, fresh, and exciting choice that clearly demonstrates that Republicans aren't reading from a script, but giving the nation a real choice: between an inexperienced Senator running with a Washington insider; versus a true independent-minded maverick American hero running with a successful and dynamic female executive, a conservative and a reformer, who couldn't be further from Washington-as-usual."

"Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined," he added.

Frederick noted that Governor Palin is a tough and accomplished Governor who has demonstrated during her time in office that she can get the job done. When seeking the governor's office in Alaska, Palin took on her state's Republican establishment and unseated an incumbent Republican governor. Once elected, she fought big oil, while advocating for environmentally-friendly domestic oil production. Palin, the first female governor of Alaska, also cut state spending and even appeared before Congress to tell them to keep their "bridge to nowhere". She also ushered in sweeping ethics reform.

"This is exactly the kind of reform and real change we need in Washington," Frederick said.

Her personal story is also impressive. A mother of five -- the oldest of whom is heading to Iraq to serve his country in the U.S. Army -- Palin discovered during her most recent pregnancy that her baby would be born with Down's Syndrome. Palin today refers to her youngest, Trigg, as a blessing that "looks perfect to me."
