A. A trail of plundering, rapes, destruction and atrocities committed by affiliated militias and soldiers from the rear units.
B. A vanguard of collaborators, secret agents, saboteurs and propaganda experts whose duty is to transform the military achievements in the battle field to a new pro Russian political order. The war in Georgia is not exceptional.
Already in the last elections, held on 11/26/2007, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili faced a stiff opposition from his former allies, the liberals, in one hand and from pro-Russian led by Arkady Patarkatsishvili, an oligarch who made fortune in Russia and is sponsored and supported by Russia, on the other. Mikheil Saakashvili won the elections with a marginal of 53.4%, which indicated the strong influence of Russia in Georgian Politics months before the recent war.
In the War (see Georgia Crisis ), which breached out on 08/07/2008, Mikheil Saakashvili did all the possible mistakes and brought a disaster on his own nation. The performances of the Georgian Army were a disgrace. The only meaningful operation was a savage shelling, by thousands Katyusha rocket of the small town of Tskhinvali - the Capital of South Ossetia. A bombardment that causes the life of many innocent civilians (The Russians claimed that 2,000 civilians were killed in the bombardment but the number are, most likely, exaggerated). When the Georgian army faced Russian troops they just fled the battle field, often without a single shot. By opening the war, unilaterally, in such a way of shelling civilians, Georgia lost its moral case in the conflict.
For the moment the Georgians are in a state of shock and it is still the time to show solidarity and unity but history teach us that, eventually, leaders who brought such a catastrophe on their nations are soon replaced whether by their own supporters or by the growing discontent of the public. Soon the question will be asked and the criticism will break out, certainly backed, financed and stimulated by Russian agents and provocateurs.
The Caucasus, including Georgia, has a very violent political tradition. Assassination is a common tool to get rid of political adversaries. We can assume that the life of Mikheil Saakashvili are, now, on the line and numbered. Mikheil Saakashvili is on the sight of Russian agents operating through local crime gangs, which always had a grip on the society and economic development of Georgia, and through genuine political opponents.
The Russians are not about to give up, their goal was not to drive out the pitiable Georgian Army from South Ossetia but to get rid from Mikheil Saakashvili and to establish a new pro Russian political order in the Caucasus by all means necessary. Indeed the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov said, on Wednesday 08/13/2008 night, in Moscow that USA must choose between Mikheil Saakashvili or good relations and cooperation with Russia.
