Border Enforcement Evaluation First
McCain's Plan Must Be Fleshed Out
American Patrol Reports, Lou Dobbs Tonight -- CNN -- July 8
McCain: Many Americans with good cause didn't believe us when we said we would secure our borders, so we failed in our efforts. We must prove to them that we can and will secure our borders first, while respecting the dignity and rights of citizens and legal residents of the United States of America.
Wian: The keyword is "first," because McCain and Obama both support some form of legalization plan for the estimated 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens already here. McCain says border security must happen before so-called immigration reform. Addressing the same group, Obama made no such promise.
(and don't forget the secret meeting McCain had with Latinos in Chicago)

Obama: We need a president who isn't going to walk away from something as important as comprehensive reform when it becomes politically unpopular. And I will make it a top priority in my first year as president.
Wian: And Obama says he will crack down on employers of illegal workers. Both candidates emphasize close ties to American Latinos.

Border Enforcement Evaluation First
John McCain is sticking to his pledge to secure the border before dealing with “comprehensive immigration reform, ” or is he? Speaking before LULAC he said, “We must prove to them that we can and will secure our borders first.” But speaking before the Conservative Political Action Committee last year, he said, “It would be among our highest priorities to secure our borders first.”

Last year, McCain said that borders must be secure first. Now he is saying he must “prove” that it can and will be done. This is an important distinction.
Anticipating something like this, American Border Patrol proposed Operation 20-20, a project whereby border security is defined and scheme for evaluation established. With the change in language of the McCain campaign, we think this is more important than ever.

In the next few months there will be a major campaign to prove to the American People that the border can and will be secured. Players in this campaign will include Time Magazine, ABC Television and many others.

To counter this propaganda American Border Patrol will proceed with “Operation 20-20” to get the facts about the border to the American People. We hope this will help them push McCain to flesh out his border proposals in terms that make sense.
As the only non-profit corporation (or the only organization for that matter) that is in a position to hold McCain’s “feet to the fire,” it would seem logical for Americans to support this effort.
