El Diario (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua) 7/6/08
- Four different events in Juarez, some out in the street, some in a bar, resulted in four more homicide victims. And at dawn, some hooded men proceeded to throw Molotov cocktails at the DX Club night spot; it burned down completely.
- At the shouts of Viva Villa! (Hurrah, or Long Live Villa) some hundred riders on horseback
started a long cavalcade in Chihuahua honoring the memory of Pancho Villa . (the Mexican general who raided the town of Columbus, NM, in 1916) According to a local official in Zaragoza, Chihuahua, the event seeks to rescue our tradition. The ride is scheduled to end in fifteen days in Parral, Chih., and by then some 3,000 riders are expected to have joined up.

There were nine executions in 24 hrs. in Michoacan. In Tijuana, Baja Calif., the body of a woman was found in a barrel, and a man was shot and killed out on a street. And in Coacalco, state of Mexico, a police officer was beaten and strangled to death; his body was left with a threatening message against police officers who practice extortion.

Three more men were found executed on the Delicias to Satevo highway (in central Chihuahua). All three had been handcuffed and shot repeatedly on the head. Tens of .223 and .308 shell casings were found.

The first week of July ended with sixteen homicides in Juarez., making a total of 559 so far this year.
Diario de Yucatan (Merida, Yucatan) 7/6/08
- On a dirt road approach to the Cancun-Merida highway: a man inside a car. Both had been burned. The man had his feet and hands tied with wire. Hed also been shot.
- Yesterday (Sat.) at dawn in Oaxaca, a mans head was found inside a black plastic bag near the house of the states A.G. with a threatening narcomessage addressed to the A.G.; the decapitated body was found later on the old road to the airport.
- (Note: This and other papers also carried an article about a report by the U.S.s National Drug Intelligence Center; it details the presence of Mexican drug cartel activities in 109 U.S. cities, 27 of them in California. Likewise, a N.Y. Times editorial critical of the effort to control the border with Mexico was carried by the Notimex news agency and appeared in several papers literally from one end of Mexico to the other, from Juarez all the way to Chiapas)

The Immigrant Civic Society coordinator of the Nicaraguan Network said that this year thousands of Nicaraguans will continue to abandon their homes due to the lack of economic opportunities available in Nicaragua. The main destinations continue to be the United States and Costa Rica. The Central Bank of Nicaragua projects the receipt of some 800 million dollars in individual monetary remittances, above the 740 million received in 2007.
