Direct from The Mexican Border - Darrell Ankarlo Reports

Radio Host Sneaks Across The Mexican Border To Reveal The Astonishing – And Often Heart Wrenching Journey Of Illegals

“Until my country is no longer in existence, I have an obligation to speak out and fight hard to save her.”
- Darrell Ankarlo

ARIZONA: Not since the Civil War has America been so divided over such a seemingly unsolvable issue as U.S. immigration policy. The president and congress are at an impasse, while vigilante groups patrol our nation’s borders looking for one of the million yearly invaders.

To understand the issue first hand and to provoke an honest dialogue on the important topic of illegal immigration, popular talk radio host Darrell Ankarlo immersed himself into the world and abhorrent business of human trafficking. Through his own illegal border crossing and mind blowing first-hand interviews with locals, border agents, teenage coyotes (guides), drug lords, and jackers (Mexican outlaws that literally kidnap border crossers), Ankarlo exposes the real story of America’s southern border.

In his new book, Another Man’s Sombrero: A Conservative Broadcaster's Undercover Journey Across the Mexican Border (Thomas Nelson, June 10, 2008), Ankarlo attempts to understand the lives of Mexican citizens as they contemplate their existence south of the border, their temptation to sneak into America, and what waits for them there.

In his harrowing trek across the desert Ankarlo discovers:

• illegal immigrants come to the United States for a promise of a better life and the “American Dream,” but ultimately settle for poverty, or worse.

• horrific and tragic stories of mistreatment and death including a “rape tree” where women are abused and their attackers hang torn bras and panties from a tree as a scare tactic and to mark their territory; and the unbelievable fact that women still make the journey knowing that this will likely happen to them.

• drug running goes hand-in-hand with illegal border crossings and as a result, human life takes a back seat to more profitable cargo.

• a stranded illegal who had been wondering the desert for three days who believed he would have died had Ankarlo and his group not saved him.

• teenage coyote guides can make over $100,000 a year.

According to Ankarlo, the business of human trafficking across the southern border has become a well-developed industry, on par with fortune 500 companies that prey on the hopes and dreams of the most down trodden Mexican citizens. Promises of Disneyland, baseball, and video games lead young mothers and families into the harsh desert and into the hands of ruthless criminals or left to die by cruel coyote guides because they couldn’t keep pace.

Ankarlo believes both countries are complicit in this inhumane travesty. Mexico doesn’t guard its border or punish illegal crossers and the U.S. has a revolving door policy where illegal border crossers who get caught, often many times, are simply flown back to Mexico (at the taxpayers expense) to try again. “If you plan to fight against the out-of-control illegal immigration,” says Ankarlo, “then we Americans must stand together, stop name-calling, and deal with the real issues.”
