Cambio de Michoacan (Morelia, Michoacan) , El Financiero (Mexico City) 6/28/08
- The governor of Michoacan (a state in Mexico) met with members of the Federation of Michoacan Clubs in Illinois (Fedecmi) "for the purpose of promoting and strengthening Michoacanan culture in the United States of North America." The governor was accompanied by president Juan Ochoa and members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He later had interviews with Spanish language media, among them the Univision and Telemundo TV networks and the weekly La Raza.
This type of festivities allow Michoacanans who reside in the United States to maintain their identity and promote knowledge about the culture and traditions of the state among the children of migrants. The events took place at the McCormick Place Convention Center.
Prior to his departure from Michoacan the governor said that he would make clear his intention to keep fighting for a migratory accord that respects the rights of Michoacanan migrants, be they legal or illegal.
We take with us a migratory, economic and political agenda, said the governor.

Frontera (Tijuana, Baja Calif.) 6/28/08
A citizens report led to an arsenal and a specially equipped vehicle being seized by Mex. military in Tijuanas Cerro Colorado area. The haul included 33 firearms, of which 26 are long barrel, and a pickup truck armored to level five , practically a tank, capable of ejecting oil and nails in case it were to be pursued. There were also 11,334 rounds of ammunition, 12 bullet proof vests, 6 gas masks and 6 helmets, 288 clips, handcuffs, police agency uniform patches, police vehicle license plates and other gear.

In Navojoa, Sonora : when two subjects arrived at a place where six other individuals - hired killers - were being kept under house arrest the two claimed they were delivering vitamins and needed to replace a drinking water cooler. A search of their vehicle turned up five fragmentation grenades and thousands in U.S. & Mexican currency. One of them, a lawyer, also carried a small amount of cocaine.

The Mexican Govt. will appeal the decision of a Mex. judge who freed the man accused of killing a Border Patrol Agent, though the United States has not presented proofs nor solicited his extradition. Ricardo Alday, a spokesman for the Mex. embassy in Washington D.C. said that the release of the suspect (Jesus Albino Navarro Montes) caught the Mex. govt. by surprise just as much as it did the U.S. govt.; the spokesman added that the Mex. authorities have a commitment to work with the United States govt. and to apply justice. We are as interested as they are in that justice be carried out. And DHS Sec. Chertoff was reported to have phoned Mexicos A.G. who assured him that he would seek to appeal he decission of the female judge vigorously.

Violence, insecurity and narcotics consumption and trafficking are at such levels in the cities of Tijuana, Baja Calif., and Culiacan, Sinaloa, that those two cities are being excluded from Mexicos Health Departments 2008 National Addictions Survey.
