Ciudad Juarez remains violent

Some 40% of Juarez' 1,659 police officers have gone through a multi phase security screening process including polygraph and toxicological exams as well as personal background checks. Juarez police are now not allowed to take their issue firearms with them when they head home after work.

And seven persons were arrested in Ciudad Juarez yesterday (Wed.) after being found in possession of just over a kilo of heroin plus 200 individual doses of the same, also a .50 cal. Barret rifle, 3 AR15 and 5 AK47 rifles, all with clips, seven handguns, 2,171 rounds of ammo, tactical uniforms, 5 bullet proof vests and seven vehicles. All this at #6515 Donato Guerra St., Colonia Francisco Villa, Juarez.
Lastly, four men were executed before dawn today (Thurs.) in Juarez, two of them outside the General Hospital where they had taken another person who had been wounded in a shootout a few minutes before, where two others had also been killed.

Wednesday night and into dawn today Thursday were a time of shootings and executions in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. Five men were riddled with gunfire and five others were wounded including a woman and a seven year old girl. The most violent events took place at the Praderas del Alamo neighborhood.

In Toluca (not far west of Mexico City) three individuals from Sinaloa and Tijuana plus a local policeman were arrested when law enforcement personnel found and seized ten long barrel firearms including machine guns, sub-machine gun, shotguns and also five pistols, 15 grenades, 625 rounds of ammo, 30 clips and other tactical gear. Some of the above, including 4 kilos of weed, were in the patrol unit of now arrested Toluca police sector VI chief Fremiot Ramirez.

One of the four federal police officers wounded last Monday night in the hours long Culiacan shootout has now died, bringing to eight the number of dead from that event.
Quite a bit of commentary has been published about the disparity in weapons between civilian law enforcement and the drug gangsters. One item was headlined : "The police have pistols with twelve shots; the hired killers, weapons that fire 900 rounds a minute."
Another 300 federal police reinforcements have now arrived in Culiacan and will concentrate on intelligence efforts to attack specific targets in the area. Requests have also been passed to the "high command" to obtain additional higher caliber weapons so that the federal forces will be as well armed as the hired killers.

Yesterday (Wed.) at dawn an armed commando forcibly abducted a Torreon, Coah., police officer from his home. Hours later, his body was found with several bullet impacts including a coup de grace.

Five homemade signs on canvas were hung from different overpasses in Culiacan yesterday. They accuse Genaro Garcia, Secretary of Federal Public Security, and General Roberto Miranda, the military area's commander, of being in collusion with Arturo Beltran Leyva and Vicente Carrillo, narco chieftains. The signs were supposedly signed by honest policemen and were removed by soldiers.

Five passengers in a bus in Chiapas presented Bulgarian passports at a highway checkpoint. Officials contacted the Bulgarian consulate and they determined that the passports were false. The five - four men and a woman - confessed that they were Albanians enroute to the United States.
